simate
Simate-beta VLA with a memory of past frames, RoboDojo’s own checkpoint, through XPolicyLab’s Simate_beta adapter
- Kind: policy
- Protocol: xpolicylab
- Default port: 19008
- VRAM: 14 GB
- Load time: about 180 s
- Skills that use a policy: vla
- Configurations that name it: default, analytic-manipulation, no-handlers, no-verifier, r1, r3, with-task-description
What the model is told
Section titled “What the model is told”A visuomotor policy with a memory of past camera frames, trained on whole RoboDojo tasks: each demonstration starts at the start pose and finishes the task, labelled with the task’s own instruction; it moves both arms (joint actions) with skilled contact. It does best in exactly that setting: from the untouched start pose, with the task’s own instruction, left to run. It cannot pick one object out of several by reading what identifies it: a name, a number or label written on it, or a picture shown as the target. Every other task it was trained on is its own, with the conditions the task sets, including what its memory of past frames gives it: an object seen, covered or swapped earlier in the episode. Usually finishes by itself: pouring a liquid from one container into another; putting a few separate objects into a bin, case or box; covering objects. Often does part and leaves the rest: packing several objects into a box; stacking blocks in a pile or tower; building a shape from blocks or parts; pouring small loose objects into a container; putting an item into an appliance; tidying or sorting objects into groups or places; filling a holder or tray with several items; hanging items on a hook or rack; nesting bowls or cups; inserting tubes or a coin where the opening is generous; folding cloth; picking objects off a moving conveyor, also the one matching an object seen earlier; swapping objects. Seldom finishes (but has learned the motion): pushing or sweeping objects to an exact pose; small precise insertions (a key, plug or screw); ordering by size; stacking a toy in its order; repeating an order shown earlier. Signs it has stopped helping: the arms stop moving while objects are not where the task needs them; the same reach is repeated; an object is knocked over or off the table.

Runs in the project environment (its dependencies are a subset of it, plus sentencepiece). The description (what the model is told) names kinds of manipulation, never tasks: it generalises Simate’s own scores run alone through run_policy on development layouts (configs/experiments/policy-alone-dev.toml, 2 layouts of each task; scripts/policy_card.py sorts them), 2026-10-13: 3 reliable, 16 partial, 19 unreliable. Not measured: cover_blocks, swap_blocks and play_tic_tac_toe (every arrangement is an evaluation layout, so none is left for development) and imitate_sorting_sequence (RoboDojo marks both layouts unstable mid-episode). Since agent 1.4.0 the kinds no longer decide strategy B: the program keeps what the policy cannot do (reading; prompts/robodojo/rules_learned.md) and hands over every other task, the kinds choosing A (usually finishes) or C (the rest). Remembering is the policy’s own: officially it scores 56.0 on match_and_pick_from_conveyor, 100 on cover_blocks and 38.7 on swap_blocks, the agent’s tools 0 on the first.
